It is also a more durable steel better than the 1060 in terms of use. This particular steel is more or so a dojo steel, it is a very flexible steel able to withstand bending. The blade material is made of a differential hardened, traditionally hand forged, clay hardened, water quenched and hand polished and folded 9260 Spring Steel ( Silicon Alloy ). Let's go ahead and talk about the general stats of this blade as advertised on their site and my general stats on the actual blade I received. I will keep this as unbiased as possible. Do not let this review cause you to not buy or buy one of these blades but rather use it as another person's opinion. This is also the first Katana I own that is from Cheness so my review here only reflects on what I have seen and done and does not reflect upon the actual brand. A note to keep in mind is this is my first review so if I butcher things I apologized and please bear with me. Reading this I was super tempted to buy one and see for myself what the hype was all about. Their blades are famous in the dojo world for being one of the best cutters and durability. Many forums and webistes and reviews has always shown that the Cheness brand while not making the most beautiful of blades and by far from a "collectible" standpoint, has agreed on one point. I wanted to get something that was durable, made from a well reputable brand and one that I knew was going to perform well in the dojo. I bought these as I was getting into Ryuseiken Battodo. The Kaze for $300 and the unsharpened Iaito delux version for $189. I recently picked up 2 Cheness Katana through the manufacturers website and warehouse out of California for quite a reasonable price. I am always looking to buy more and add to my collection. I have went through and owned close to about 20-30 of them ranging from display pieces to dojo quality to real handmade forged Nihontos straight out of Japan as they are advertised. The Japanese Katana has had me fascinated for the latter 8 years ever since I was in middle school.
